Rogue One Epic Movie Moments Fan Art

This Rogue One fan art was created as part of an epic movie moments project set by Patrick Brown on his Patreon. I knew straight away that I wanted to do the hallway scene from Rogue One, where Vader emerges from the shadows before showing the full extent of his powers on a group of rebels.
I remember the entire cinema falling silent when his iconic breathing started and then just erupting when his lightsaber first ignited and it was just so suitably epic, perfect for this project!

First I set up my perspective guides, I wanted the viewer to be looking up at Vader to make him look more imposing and capture the mood of the scene better

Next step was to get the background in, I spent a long time looking at reference from the film, but the poor lighting meant it was difficult to see any detail, so I ended up working from an amazing set of fan made 3D models I found online

Then I sketched in the characters, I wanted to capture some key moments from the scene, like the rebel that Vader suspends from the ceiling with the force and another that he chokes before slashing at another, it made for a really fun composition!

Flat colours were next, I wanted to keep it pretty simple at this stage to better suit my style

Some basic shadows, I did a rough general pass with a soft brush and then more detailed layers with a harder brush to get more detailed shadows
